In Brenda SongAmazon Freevee’s New Romantic Comedy accidentally loving, the household name plays Alexa, a go-getter vying for a promotion against a man who seems to work half as hard as she does. The story is as old as time, but has a sweet twist when these two co-workers unknowingly exchange an affectionate text. It’s the former Disney star’s first film since becoming a mom, and she’s opened up to HollywoodLife in an EXCLUSIVE interview about how her current mindset has made her more confident in her acting career.
“I’m just at a point in my life where I’m open to anything and everything and I just see where it’s taking me because for the first time in my life I’m not making choices out of fear,” Brenda shared. . “I don’t wonder what anyone might think or be, ‘Why are you doing this?’ The older I get, the more I realize that this is how I want to live my life, just do the things I want to do, for whatever reason and that’s fine.
She continued, “At the end of the day, I want to keep challenging myself and trying different things. One of my favorite things about my job is finding a project and seeing if my skill set can help elevate that character. So for me right now it’s about being able to tell stories that I find relevant, and especially in these dark and crazy times, I love making a movie that makes people smile for at least 90 minutes!”
Brenda definitely succeeds in giving viewers a sweet escape in accidentally loving, premiering on Amazon Freevee on July 15. “When I read this script, it gives me such a throwback vibe to those rom-coms I grew up watching that I missed so much,” she gushed. “The tech touch was a fun way to tell the story, especially in our day and age where I feel like we’re literally behind computer screens all the time!”
While her Alexa persona is “so uptight and so focused on work that she doesn’t know how to let her guard down,” Brenda loved that viewers could see her “opening up to someone she” doesn’t know and felt like couldn’t judge her. “It really shows you that you can’t judge a book by its cover, number one and two, you really don’t know the people you’re working with! Alexa and Jason work together every day and she’s totally judged him and has no idea there’s this other side to him,” she continued.
