Is No Way Home becoming the greatest movie of all time?

While an increase in COVID-19 cases is pushing many people away from movie theaters, Spider-Man: No Path Home continues to dominate the global box office and breaks records almost every day. Earlier today, the film officially became Sony Pictures’ highest-grossing film of all time and is quickly becoming one of the biggest hits in the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe. The amount of money the film made, and the way it plays out like it has almost no competition, might make some fans wonder, might Spider-Man: No Path Home to become the greatest movie of all time? Consider the box office facts and statistics below.

As of this writing, Spider-Man: No Path Home grossed $ 516.4 million at the domestic box office and $ 644.9 million internationally, giving it a worldwide total of $ 1.16 billion and making it the biggest film of the year in the world. The film managed to amass that total after just twelve days, and it’s already passed. Spider-Man: Far From Home$ 1.13 billion gross worldwide, which took about two and a half months to reach. When we consider the competition that No way home faces in his journey and through the box office record books, we undoubtedly have to factor in the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, but there are also a host of other records that he will almost certainly hold in when his theatrical exhibition will end in a few months.

To begin with, let’s set up Spider-Man: No Way Home ‘box office success versus some of the biggest hits in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In the first twelve days of its publication (how much data we currently have for No way home), Avengers: Endgame had grossed $ 644.5 million while Avengers: Infinity War grossed $ 472 million and Black Panther had totaled $ 412 million. Looking at those twelve-day totals for these Marvel movies, and then looking at their overall national transportation, Avengers: Endgame had brought in 75% of its US total ($ 858 million), Avengers: Infinity War had brought in 69.5% of its national total ($ 678.8 million) and Black Panther only 58.8% of its national total ($ 700 million); it shows how monstrous the legs were in the 2018 solo movie.

Putting Spider-Man: No Path Home against those other movies it seems to work more like a Avengers movie, which accounts for how the third act of the film ends up playing out. Let’s just assume that the $ 516.4 million it has already brought in to the United States will end up making up 70%, or most of it, of its domestic box office, which would end up taking the film to around $ 738 million. dollars nationally, which would make it the # 4 new movie in the US and # 2 movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Perhaps, however, it is not fair to compare Spider-Man: No Path Homepercentages to the two largest Avengers movies and Black Panther, these came out in the summer and February after all, as No Way Home performed to a Christmas audience. The closest thing to the film’s success by this metric then is the release of Disney Star wars movies. No Way Home has already passed Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and seems to be on track to beat Star Wars: The Last Jedi. These three films had longer legs than summer tent poles with their 12-day totals encompassing 64% of the force awakens” in total, 68% of The Last Jedi‘s total, and 60% of The Rise of Skywalkeris total. Yes No way home ends up working more like that, it would exceed $ 800 million at the domestic box office when all is said and done.

This, again, seems unlikely due to the dramatic increase in COVID-19 cases, forcing us to, um, think about it, what if this movie came out in December when there was no no global pandemic? Given that, it seems incredibly likely that he could have competed with Avengers: Endgame and Avatar for the first places.

All this number gibberish behind us now it’s kinda hard to imagine No way home as becoming the greatest movie of all time. As of this writing, there are five films with over $ 2 billion at the global box office, so Spider Man will have to almost double what he already has to even think about taking the first place. The only thing working in his favor to do this? An official release date in China.

Spider-Man: No Path Home has already hit its many box office benchmarks without releasing in China, but it looks like it’s on track to make its debut there. It is sometimes difficult to predict the trends of moviegoers in the Chinese market, the most recent Star wars movies failed to gain traction there while Avengers: Endgame grossed $ 629 million. Watching Tom Holland’s two previous films, Spider-Man: Homecoming made $ 118.8 million despite its later release in China while Spider-Man: Far From Home launched at over $ 205 million thanks to an early release. With a later start, it’s hard to tell if No way home will wipe out its predecessor’s total, especially with rampant piracy, but any Chinese box office boost will be a major help for the film as it lands near the top of the all-time global box office.
