Shahid Kapoor and Mrunal Thakur stars Jersey came out of theaters. The film’s release date changed several times due to the pandemic, and later to avoid a clash with Yash Featured KGF 2. The film also stars Pankaj Kapur in an important role.
Director Gowtam Tinnanuri is an adaptation of Telugu Film starring Nani in the lead role. The Telugu version was also made by Gowtam. The film won two National Film Awards: Best Feature – Telugu and Best Editing, and was highly praised by critics and audiences.
This is Shahid’s second Telugu adaptation after Kabir Singh, which turned out to be the hit of his career. He earlier told indianexpress.com: “I was more assured when I was doing Jersey, more confident this time. I was a little uncertain last time (Kabir Singh). He added, “Roles like Arjun and Kabir are so difficult, and there’s pressure not to let the original film down. Then there is your father. So there was a lot to deal with. But having him in all those scenes helped tremendously. You end up giving your best as an actor. It’s always amazing to learn from him.
The public has been flocking to theaters for a few weeks, with RRR and KGF 2 being major examples of movies that made a lot of money at the box office, but it seems that Jersey won’t be in the same league like them. Earlier, cinema trade exponent Akshaye Rathi told indianexpress.com, “In terms of box office, I don’t think Jersey will open ballistically.” But, he added, “It may not be a good start, but it will grow day by day and register a good total.”
Film trade expert Girish Johar said, “KGF 2 is also going to have a good second weekend. But that said, Jersey will always have takers because the film has emotionally strong content.
