The last episode of Screen Junkies’ Honest trailers the series aims Red Notice, roasting the painfully average and brainless Netflix movie. Written, directed and produced by Rawson Marshall Thurber, the action comedy centers on FBI agent John Hartley as he reluctantly works with notorious art thief Nolan Booth to track down fellow notorious criminal The Bishop and a collection of priceless eggs dating from Cleopatra. Dwayne Johnson, Ryan Reynolds and Gal Gadot lead the cast of Red Notice alongside Chris Diamantopoulos, Ritu Arya, Ivan Mbakop, Vincenzo Amato and Rafael Petardi.

Development on Red Notice started at Universal Pictures with Johnson and Thurber teaming up for their third project together after Central intelligence and Skyscraper, both produced by the studio. Netflix would later acquire the rights to the title and give it a budget of $ 200 million, making it the largest production for an original title on the streamer to date, surpassing that of fellow Reynolds-starrer. 6 Underground. The film was released in select theaters and on Netflix last November, with mostly negative reviews from critics.

Red Notice marked a sort of curiosity with audiences and Hollywood throughout its development as the film went on to become Netflix’s costliest production and the first proper pairing of three of the industry’s biggest stars, with Johnson and Reynolds having already worked together in a brief capacity for Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw. Unfortunately, much like Reynolds’ previous streaming project 6 Underground, the film would be widely regarded as another critical misfire, lacking a lot of creativity and placing all of its value on the shoulders of its three protagonists. Red NoticeThe honest trailer rightly points out a number of the film’s biggest issues, including its big twist that Johnson’s John Hartley is actually the real Bishop, a nice attempt to diversify his characters if not for its predictable nature.

Despite the film’s negative critical reception, Red Notice has always been a hit with viewers, who gave it a 92% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, in stark contrast to its 35% review score. Audiences also flocked to make the film Netflix’s most watched film, surpassing Bird box, which kept the streamer interested in engaging in discussions with the cast and Thurber for a potential sequel. Those who haven’t seen the movie yet can grab Red Notice on Netflix now.
