So Cold The River is a screen adaptation of the novel of the same name written by New York bestselling author Michael Koryta. Paul Shoulberg wrote and directed the film. This film revolves around a fictional documentary filmmaker Erica Shaw (Bethany Joy Lenz) who is appointed by Alyssa Bradford-Cohen (Alysia Reiner) to document her dying stepfather Campbell Bradford who is a millionaire.
Erica is offered a huge sum of money to document his life in a local town where he once ruled. She is given an antique bottle filled with local spring water and some clues connecting Campbell’s life to the town.
Erica visits the city and stays at a local hotel. While there, she meets Josiah (Andrew J. West), the hotel staff. He is a relative descended from Bareford. To find out more about Campbell, Erica begins to seduce Joshua on the cheap.
On the other hand, she meets unofficial town historian Anne Mckinney (Deanna Dunagan) and fanatical intern Kellyn (Katie Sharife). They start helping Erica and they become good friends. Meanwhile, Josiah reveals to Erica the family curse of mysterious deaths and suicide.
Erica starts having horrible visions after drinking from a bottle.

The concept of the film So Cold The River is nothing new. Some films are already made with similar concepts. Although its cinematography is impressive and the set design captures your attention throughout the film.
Its gothic scenes look quite realistic to watch and the movie is able to give you chills and also a good horror experience. However, the characters in the films do not develop as the film progresses and the sound quality of this film may be irritating to some viewers. Watching the film, the story may seem nonsensical to you.
Although it’s a good horror/thriller movie. If you are someone who is a big fan of this genre, you can watch it. It is perfect for entertainment. The film is rated R and the running time is one hour and thirty minutes. The film is 60% fresh according to Rotten Tomatoes review.
