Clocking in at 120 minutes, the pacing rarely sags, which is no small feat for a film juggling this many ideas. The economics alone are worth mentioning: a $3,000,000 budget turned into $17,500,000 in worldwide grosses.

For anyone building out a watchlist of essential mystery titles, Oldboy isn’t optional — it’s foundational.
