Gran Turismo Movie Casts Archie Madekwe


We’ve seen a trend lately that follows the adaptation of various video game properties for television – both for the big and small screens. Sony and Playstation who have been involved in such moves have another game adaptation underway with the production of the fast paced Gran Turismo. As the film begins to put pieces together for production, casting announcements have been made for the adaptation. By The Hollywood Reporter, See actor Archie Madekwe will star in the film opposite the previously announced David Harbour.

Madekwe is fairly new to the block with a collection of on-screen credits. The actor has already appeared in the 2019 Ari Aster-directed Midsommar featuring Florence Pugh, Jack Reynor and Vilhelm Blomgren following a couple whose peaceful retirement quickly turned sour at the hands of a pagan cult. Madekwe also starred alongside Lily-Rose Depp, Colin Farell and Tye Sheridan in Travelers. However, the actor is best known for his role in the Apple TV+ series, See featuring alongside Jason Momoa in the dystopian series. Madekwe stars as Kofun, one half of a pair of twins born with sight in a world where all of humanity cannot see. The series recently launched its third and final season. The actor will next star in Emerald Fennellit is Saltburn next to Barry Keoghan, Jacob Elordi, Rosamund Pike and Richard E. Grant.


The Gran Turismo the film adaptation was announced in May 2022 and will seek to emulate some of the box office success enjoyed by Sony’s latest adaptation, Unexplored featuring Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg. The adaptation was a smash hit at the box office as it grossed $400 million worldwide, making it one of the highest-grossing video game adaptations both domestically and internationally. The next racing film will be directed by a Gran Turismo fan in District 9it is Neil Blomkamp. Although plot details remain firmly under wraps, the upcoming adaptation will follow the true story of a teenage player of the racing simulation game.

The project will follow the teenage gamer whose skills allow him to win several competitions for the game and then ultimately lead him to become a true professional racing driver. Madekwe is set to play the role of the teenage player while Harbor will take on the role of a retired pilot who will teach him to drive. Gran Turismo will begin filming next week in Europe.

The screenplay of the film is written by Jason Hall and Zach Baylin. The production of the film is Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan for PlayStation with Doug Belgrade and Dana Brunetti. Hall will produce the film with the game’s creator Kazunori Yamauchi.
