Gospel musician Brother Sammy says he is shocked at the amount of money some players in the film industry are making, especially Kumawood.

According to him, after recently getting a movie role through a friend, who doubled as a director, he was paid GH¢40.

Speaking on UTV, Brother Sammy said he assumed the director gave him the money as a thank you for showing up and playing the part – a deal made between friends.

However, such incidents have been repeated many times, so he begins to wonder how the actors make their money.

He revealed actress Tracy Boakye had already paid for his flight to and from a film set, but when he was dropped off at the airport after starring in the film, she didn’t pay him.

Brother Sammy added that he also worked with the late actor Reverend Bernard Nyarko who paid him 50GH¢.

The Gospel musician noted that after receiving these meager sums, he called some people in the Kumawood industry to find out if their salaries were still so low.

Brother Sammy said he was told by some of them that filmmakers were struggling to keep the Kumawood industry alive, so that and other factors affected salaries.

He said he was told that everyone, including actors, is doing their part to keep the industry going, hence the salary.
