‘Lightyear’: When will the Pixar movie land on Disney Plus?

It’s that time of year again. Another major Disney film hit theaters was Lightyear, an animated Pixar film about the astronaut who inspired the toy in the Toy Story series. Confused by this description? This is CNET exam dive into what exactly this movie is.

What’s also confusing: Recently, Pixar movies have gone straight to Disney Plus, skipping theaters. Soul, Luca and Turning Red have all been there. Does Lightyear do the same? You probably already know the answer: it hit theaters last Friday, but you won’t find it on Disney Plus. Not yet anyway.

Here’s more about what we know about Lightyear’s streaming version so far.

Lightyear Release Dates

Lightyear hits theaters Friday, June 17. Unlike the previous three Pixar films, it will be released exclusively in theaters.

There hasn’t been an official press release yet on when Lightyear will be coming to Disney Plus.

But based on previous Disney movies, we can guess when the latest Pixar movie will be coming to Disney Plus.

Black Widow took 89 days, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings took 70 days, Eternals took 68 days, and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will take 47 days (it hasn’t reached Disney Plus yet – the expected release date is June 22).

What do these numbers mean for Lightyear? Basically, if it follows Disney’s most recent release – the Doctor Strange sequel – it’ll hit Disney Plus in late July or early August.

Some details about the Disney Plus subscription

The basic Disney Plus subscription costs $8 per month or $80 per year, but if you bundle Hulu and ESPN Plus with Disney, the cost is $14 per month.
