“We thought it would be a great idea to get some kids out to watch a movie and enjoy a night out that costs them nothing,” says the event sponsor
Prepare your popcorn. The Cinema in the Yard is coming to downtown later this month.
The event is sponsored by Mark Goode Mortgage Man Dominion Lending Centers. The company’s media administrator, Lori Bertoni, says the event gives the local business an opportunity to give back to the community.
“We wanted to do an event with the community because we hadn’t seen events like this in a few years,” she said.
The event takes place on August 23 and the feature of the night is Night at the museum which will begin, under the stars, at 9 p.m. in the courtyard of the Orillia Public Library
“We wanted to choose something nostalgic and fun,” Bertoni said. “It’s something that people of all ages will enjoy.”
The event is free for participants who register in advance here. There will be free popcorn during the film and beforehand families can enjoy some crafts organized by the library. Full event details will be sent to registrants.
Mortgage broker Mark Goode says even after staying home during the COVID-19 pandemic, many people are “strapped for cash” right now.
“We thought it would be a great idea to get some kids out to watch a movie and enjoy a night out that costs them nothing,” he said.
Goode hopes to see many Orillia families take advantage of the free event. He also hopes some families will make it a night out and go out for dinner downtown.
“Downtown restaurants have been hit hard in recent years,” he said. “We also try to help them.”
