The official preview of The Suspended Man, directed by duo Shane Comley-White and Bruce Crossey, drew viewers of all races and ages cheering enthusiastically after the closing credits.

With no more than 35 attendees, the intimate gathering, held at the Thrst Group premises in Wynberg, gave guests an unforgettable experience watching an original film narrated by Oscar-nominated actor Eric Roberts on August 27. .

Inspired by Crossey’s poem, the film directs its attention to a black man based in Alexandra Township who is determined to make a name for himself. Each scene was synchronized with Roberts’ voice delivery.

“The film was moving, it emphasizes the differences of people and their environment while wanting the goodness of life. We may all be in the same storm, but we are not in the same boat” , said Nikki Paarman, one of the guests of the preview of the film.

Crossey explained: “During one of my test weeks at university I was looking out the window as we approached Pretoria using Gautrain. I saw an old man wearing a smart suit, pointy hat and dress shoes with a briefcase. He was walking on the train tracks and he had this determined look and I thought to myself, why do I want to give up when someone who has been through more difficult times than me is still determined to preserve? It changed the way I see things. »
