It’s summer and it’s hot, so have fun and go on an adventure with Humphrey Bogart at 2 p.m. Sunday afternoons in late August and early September at the wonderfully air-conditioned theater at Pine Island United Methodist Church !

Everyone, islander and continental, is invited. Admission is free, donations to help the church building fund are gratefully accepted, and popcorn and iced tea are available for a small fee.

Robert N. Macomber, multi-award-winning author, international speaker, book reviewer and film judge, and longtime church member, will host the series. It will introduce each film with little-known behind-the-scenes information about the writers, actors, and how it was filmed.

The series begins on August 28 with “KeyLargo”, Bogart’s 1948 Florida Keys hurricane film starring Lauren Bacall, and perfect to watch at the height of hurricane season in August! On September 4, the second film is from 1951 “The African Queen” filmed on location in the African jungle with Katharine Hepburn. And the 9/11 grand finale is Bogart’s iconic 1942 wartime love story with Ingrid Bergman, Casablanca.

Pine Island United Methodist Church is located at 5701 Pine Island Road at Pine Island Center. Call 239-283-2386 for more information.
