Tollywood’s leading production house, Sithara Entertainments, is launching Ganesh, the son of producer Bellamkonda Suresh, with this film.
Let’s discover its merits and demerits.
Bala (Ganesh) works as a government employee in Pithapuram. He’s a simple guy who can’t even talk to women. He goes to a cafe to meet Bhagyalakshmi (Varsha Bollamma) for Pelli Choopulu, and instantly likes her. But she waits a few days before giving her opinion.
Little by little, she begins to appreciate it. On their wedding day, a woman (Divya Sripada) with an infant child appears claiming that Bala fathered the child.
Bala admits that the child was born because of his mistake. The marriage is annulled. What was his mistake? And why didn’t he reveal this past episode to Bhagyalakshmi?
Ganesh makes a neat debut. He doesn’t do anything a normal “hero” does. He’s just okay for the role.
Varsha Bollamma has already proven himself in previous films.
Rao Ramesh and Goparaju Ramana provide a lot of comic relief with their acting. They dominate in the second half of the film.
Vennela Kishore plays Ganesh’s friend, but he doesn’t do much comedy. Divya Sripada and Subbaraju do their roles justice.
The story of the film is set in Pithapuram. But most of the footage takes place indoors. It has decent production and technical values. These kinds of movies need catchy songs. Sagar Mahati’s music is forgettable. The assembly is neat. Some dialogue is hilarious.
The main concept
Comedy by Rao Ramesh-Goparaju Ramana
Dull first half
old fashioned romance
“Swathi Muthyam” features a beginner Ganesh and the film is presented as a family entertainer. But the film’s core conflict and main concept is strong and unusual. The “sperm donation” is the most difficult point to include in a scenario intended for a family audience. There were Bollywood movies like “Vicky Donor” where the protagonist is a sperm donor and gets money from it. In “Swathi Muthyam”, the hero is not a sperm donor.
The hero is a good guy. He calls himself “virgin”. But still, he donates sperm for some reason that goes wrong and becomes a big problem in his life. This point is unique. It was never discussed in the Telugu film industry.
The new director has found a strong point of conflict for this kind of story. But the film begins on a boring note. The entire first half of the film feels like deja vu. The Pelli Choopulu scenes, the comedic sequences in a government office, and the filmed romance track about Varsha and Ganesh seem straight out of old movies. It seems that the director has relied heavily on the main concept.
As Divya Sripada appears in the story, the movie starts to look interesting. Luckily, actors like Goparaju Ramana and Rao Ramesh take matters into their own hands in the second half and provide some real laughs. The second half is packed with entertaining footage. The climax part is also convincing.
On the other hand, the main romantic thread filmed on the main pair is not attractive and the songs lack freshness.
Overall, “Swathi Muthyam” is a decent family entertainer thanks to his new conflict and a watchable second half.
At the end of the line : Decent drama
