It’s the dream showbiz crossover we almost had.
Pop powerhouse Taylor Swift was eager to make a guest appearance in the second Twilight film, New Moon, in 2009, but the film’s director revealed he shot down the idea.
The then 19-year-old American singer was emerging as one of the most popular names in music following the success of her 2008 single Love Story, while Summit Entertainment was preparing to shoot a sequel to follow up on the vampire’s success in small groups. film.
And more than a decade later, Twilight: New Moon director Chris Weitz sat down for an interview on The Twilight Effect podcast, where he leaked details of Swift’s desperate attempt to star in the franchise.
“Taylor Swift was a huge ‘Twi-hard’, and Taylor Swift and I had the same agent at the time, and he said, ‘Taylor would love to be in this movie, not because of you, but she’s a Twi-hard ‘.'” Weitz said.
Swift wasn’t worried about the role she would play, with Weitz saying she would have been happy to just be “someone in the cafeteria or restaurant.”
But he was forced to turn Swift down, arguing it would have been too awkward for the story.
“The hardest thing for me was being like, the moment Taylor Swift comes on the screen, for about five minutes, nobody will be able to process anything,” Weitz said.
“I also kicked myself for that, because I was like, ‘Wow, I could have hung out with Taylor Swift. We could have been friends. “”
By the time New Moon was released to worldwide fanfare in November 2009, Swift was in a high-profile relationship with one of her stars, American actor Taylor Lautner, which would certainly have bolstered the press around New Moon.
Swift and Lautner instead ended up meeting on the set of the movie Valentine’s Day, in which they played love interests, but they broke up by the time it hit theaters in February 2010.
Swift, now 32, penned a moving song about her failed romance with Lautner called Comeback in December, in which she opened up about how she took the relationship for granted.
The two are now in a committed relationship, with Lautner engaged to care for Taylor Dome, while Swift has been with her boyfriend, British actor Joe Alwyn, for five years.
