Audiences everywhere are positively buzzing about the new sonic the hedgehog film franchise. With stunningly beautiful CGI work, thrilling action sequences, and a narrative that lives up to the beloved video game series, it’s hard not to love the blue blur and company! Luckily for us, comicsSega Sammy is already hard at work on the third installment of the Sonic series and a spin-off starring our favorite mighty echidna warrior. The mid-credits scene in sonic the hedgehog 2 after all, introduced us to Shadow the Hedgehog, so a third movie was already a given.
As we still have a ways to go before we see any new theatrical releases, now is a great time to check out all of our favorite characters in the movies – specifically, we want to see who the strongest players are. From otherworldly anthropomorphic creatures to mad scientists and lovable law enforcement, the entire cast is made up of fearsome fighters who know how to rock the house. Let’s rank the strongest characters in the sonic the hedgehog movies.
8 Agent Stone
Doctor Robotnik’s dedicated henchman doesn’t necessarily throw cars or smash bricks with his bare hands, but he stands his ground alongside the mad scientist, and that’s a feat in and of itself. Most of Stone’s strength comes from dedication and willpower; he shows nothing but confidence when staring at high-ranking military personnel, and his unwavering devotion to the doctor’s wild escapades and unpredictable behavior speaks volumes about his determination. As a bonus, the man is much tougher than he looks – he barely breaks his stride after being punched in the chest by Robotnik in the first. sonic the hedgehog movie, and he can handle being thrown by the doctor’s giant robot in the second.
7 Maddie Wachowski
Luckily, Sonic had no trouble bonding with his adopted loved ones, and Maddie is an underrated beacon in his life. From wrangling with distressed patients to lifting animals and heavy equipment, veterinary work takes a lot of strength – and Maddie has been a vet for years. Outside of her profession, she’s an avid yoga enthusiast and flexible enough to earn the nickname “Pretzel Lady” from Sonic. Maddie clearly takes her physical and mental fitness very seriously, which allows her to get her husband and alien son out of trouble as often as she does.
6 Tom Wachowski
Although Tom doesn’t see much action in the line of duty as a Green Hills cop, it’s no secret that police officers are required to pass rigorous physical tests to join the force. Considering how easily he can carry Sonic (who is canonically 77 pounds) in both movies, it’s obvious he still has it! As for tenacity, he takes several hits in a bar fight at sonic the hedgehog and still manages to hold his own, and he survives multiple explosions and car crashes throughout the franchise. For more context, his fishing trip with Sonic in the second movie suggests that he’s a relatively experienced fisherman and has spent a lot of time in the great outdoors, which often gives way to good physical condition. Despite his affinity for donuts, Tom is a tough guy all around.
5 long claw
Sadly, we don’t see much of Sonic’s beloved guardian in either film, but the short time she gets on screen tells us a lot about her character. A vision of relentless courage, Longclaw doesn’t shy away from taking on an entire tribe of warriors while Sonic escapes through a portal – and that’s after she bursts through a window and flies away with him under her wing. Even after being hit by an enemy arrow, she is back on her feet without breaking a sweat. On top of all that, she was an amazing mother figure who was obviously able to keep up with Sonic’s antics, which is saying a lot.
4 Doctor Robotnik
Like his devoted cohort, Doctor Robotnik’s strength lies more in his mind than his body. He’s one of the smartest (albeit unbalanced) people in the universe, and he survives blows and damage that would probably hospitalize us all. In the opening scene of sonic the hedgehog 2, the mad genius is physically knocked to the ground by the sheer electrical force of his portal device. While he spends a good chunk of his time unconscious, he’s immediately able to fend off invading warriors and deliver goofy one-liners at the same time. He has spent around eight months surviving alone on the isolated mushroom planet, tracks Knuckles while navigating a booby-trapped temple, and possesses the physical and mental strength to harness the energy of the Master Emerald. While robotics and intelligence may be his forte, Doctor Robotnik is tougher than you might imagine!
Sweet, endearing, and armed with a razor-sharp mind, Tails is another mastermind who possesses impressive physical strength. Considering how quickly and easily he flies with his helicopter tails, his strength is further demonstrated when he begins to carry Sonic (again, 77 pounds) and Knuckles (a whopping 88 pounds) for that he flies. From supporting his weight while breakdancing to battling Robotnik’s giant mech (and taking a few insane beatings in the process), Tails’ strength arguably matches his intelligence.
As the unmistakable muscle of Team Sonic, Knuckles is all about strength, for The player. Hailing from a proud tribe of battle-hardened warriors, he prides himself on being one of the most fearsome fighters in the entire universe, and he’s not shy about putting his money where his mouth is. From his first interaction with Sonic, Knuckles swings with fists that can literally break a human hand with a single squeeze; every fight scene shows the extent of his prowess as he punches, throws, and digs into solid surfaces without flinching. Towards the end of the film, he has no problem carrying Tails (who weighs 44 pounds) with one arm, and he visibly weighs down the bed of Tom’s truck when he jumps inside. Through and through, Knuckles is an unrivaled warrior who should not be outdone by any foe.
Sonic may not have the toughest punch or the most smarts in the franchise, but he’s a conduit for some of the meanest shows of force on the silver screen. Physically speaking, he is able to break the sound barrier and run several hundred kilometers per hour without any adverse effects on his body. In fact, moving at such unparalleled speeds allows Blue Blur to unleash super powerful attacks like his Spinning Dash, which can destroy Robotnik’s robots in seconds. He’s also an athlete, given that we see him dive into baseball, snowboarding, fistfights, dance battles, and his own superhero routine. Despite Knuckles’ brick-breaking strength, Sonic can get back to his feet after taking a beating from the warrior echidna and is nearly able to free him from a massive underwater pillar on his own. Above all, the feature that sets Sonic apart from all others is his control over the Chaos Emeralds – Robotnik wields them as a whole but ultimately relies on a massive mechanical suit to harness their power. On the other hand, Sonic can maintain their energy in his body. He is certainly surrounded by powerful players, but let’s not forget: this is Sonic’s game, after all!
