Tokyo Revengers Live-Action Movie Gets A Sequel

A sequel to the 2021 live-action film adaptation of Tokyo avengers was announced.

Tokyo avengers first played on Japanese TV in July, and viewers and fans were surprised to see a trailer for Tokyo Avengers 2 aired at the end of the show. The trailer, which is now available to watch on YouTube, revealed that the sequel will debut in Japan sometime in 2023. Some details about Tokyo Avengers 2 have already been confirmed, including that Tsutomu Hanabusa will return to direct the sequel and that actor Takumi Kitamura will reprise his role as time-traveling protagonist Takemichi Hanagaki.

Mangaka Ken Wakui first released his ongoing Tokyo avengers series in Kodansha Weekly Shōnen Magazine in March 2017 and so far the manga has produced 28 volumes. The story follows Takemichi, a burnout in his early twenties, who is transported back in time to twelve years. Using his knowledge of the future, he hopes to correct the mistakes of his past and save the life of his childhood sweetheart, Hinata Tachibana, by infiltrating the Tokyo Manji gang.

Tokyo avengers is Kodansha’s most successful manga series since Hajime Isayama The attack of the Titans, having sold more than 65 million copies worldwide this month. Not only was the series a financial success, but it also performed well with critics. In 2020, he won the shōnen category at the 44th Kodansha Manga Awards and in 2021, Tokyo avengers has been featured on Da Vince Magazine’s Book of the Year list.

There have been several developments for the Tokyo avengers franchise beyond the announcement of the live-action movie sequel. Notably, the first chapter of the spin-off manga, Tokyo Revengers ~Baji Keisuke Kara no Tegami~ (A letter from Keisuke Baji), published in the last issue of Weekly Shōnen magazine. As the title suggests, the story focuses on the character Keisuke Baji, who is one of the first division leaders of the Tokyo Manji gang.

Additionally, the second season of Liden Films’ animated adaptation of Tokyo avengers The premiere is scheduled for January 2023. The new season will depict the events of the manga’s Christmas Showdown arc and introduce several new characters, including Inui Seisyu, played by Komi can’t communicateby Junya Enoki and Kokonoi Hajime, voiced by end of platinumit’s Natsuki Hanae.
