Tom Cruise is one of the most popular and highest paid actors in the Hollywood industry. The actor, who has been in the film industry for over 40 years, has also made headlines during his star years.

Tom’s former manager, now retired showbusiness executive Eilee Berlin, spilled the tea on Cruise’s eagerness to make it to Hollywood. He claimed the star had a “terrible temper” from the start of his career.

It may have been an expression of love or a fight, but Tom had a few questionable moments. HITC brings you some of the most controversial moments the actor has been involved in over the years.

Laughing at the awkward moment of flight

In 1999, during an appearance on The Late Show with David Latterman, Tom laughed hysterically at an awkward robbery. He shared the story of when he and a pilot restricted oxygen to a passenger while flying at high altitude toward Colorado.

As he explained what happened, he revealed that they realized the plane was not carrying enough oxygen for the three people on board. As the audience and David laughed at the story, Tom said the passenger they flew with passed out after Tom and the pilot of the plane decided to cut off his oxygen.

“But honestly, looking at it from another side isn’t that an attempted homicide? You just cut off a guy’s oxygen. You’re lucky you’re not serving your time, for god’s sake,” David said.

However, after Tom reassured that the passenger was fine, the host joined in as the actor couldn’t contain his laughter while explaining the story.

Tom Cruise’s “couch jumping” moment on Oprah’s couch

Arguably, Tom’s behavior during his interview on Oprah Winfrey’s talk show in 2005 is one of his most iconic moments. Was it love speaking? Anyway, if such a thing had happened today, it would have turned into a meme, that’s for sure.

As the audience cheered, the actor declared his love for then-fiancée Katie Holmes, who obviously took Tom’s heart away. Viewers saw the actor’s crazy side when he confessed to being in love with the actress. He would then get up and jump on the couch and around Oprah.

As soon as Oprah mentioned Kate’s name, Tom couldn’t contain his happiness and emotions as he started pumping the air and the ground. Throughout, Oprah smiled shockingly at her reactions and kept asking, “What happened to you?”

The actor even forgot he was asked to promote his upcoming film War of the Worlds, just like Oprah.

Katie and Tom then divorced in 2012.

Arguing on NBC’s Today

The same year Tom had gone viral for his actions on Oprah, once again the actor made headlines. Promote the same movie War of the Worldsa 2005 interview with Matt Lauer for the Today’s Show ended with the presenter right away.

Prior to the interview, Brooke Shields had come under fire from Tom after taking antidepressants for her postpartum depression after giving birth to her daughter. As an active member of the Church of Scientology, the actor was completely against the use of “psychotropic drugs”, he suggested that women take vitamins and exercise instead.

As Matt Lauer brought up the conversation as Katie Holmes watched from afar, the actor didn’t have it. He argued with the presenter as things turned sour. Tom also spoke to the interviewer as they had a serious conversation about using prescription drugs for mental health.

Totally disagreeing with Matt, Tom said, “Here’s the thing: you don’t know the history of psychiatry. I do.”

After leaving Scientology, Leah Remini released her memoir Troublemaker: Surviving Hollywood and Scientology in November 2015.

As Leah explained with her own experiences, she claimed she didn’t have a good relationship with Tom after church.

In her memoir, Leah shares the time Tom allegedly yelled at his assistants. The reason? He couldn’t find the prepackaged cookie dough when he suddenly wanted to bake cookies. She wrote quoting Tom, saying he said: “Good God! Can I just have the cookies, guys? Step into the present tense, that’s what you have to do.

According to a spokesperson, Scientology has denied Remini’s claims. Still, that didn’t stop the actress from detailing more allegations after her time at the church.
